Preparing the Soil; A Gathering to Restore our Capacity to Listen & Hold Space

Monday June 15, 2020 - 7pm - 8pm EST

In response to BLACK LIVES MATTER...

In response to the events happening around the world regarding systemic racism, I am hosting a 1 hour event on Monday June 8th called “Preparing the Soil; A Gathering to Restore our Capacity to Listen & Hold Space.”

The purpose of this event is to help us be better, more emotionally available listeners and hold space for the massive amount of grief and pain occurring right now. In order to receive the massive amount of anger, grief, injustice and pain, we must know how to be good listeners. One of the first steps in good listening is cultivating emotional availability and empathetic capacity.

This event is in service to our Black brothers and sisters who need our support and open hearted emotional availability right now. When we 'prepare the soil' we can listen deeply in order to make change.

Here’s a brief agenda for the gathering:

- Welcoming & guidelines for the gathering

- Heart oriented meditation

- Opening song “So many ways”

- Exercise for restoring our listening capabilities - Touching the Ground of Being

- Creating a personal vow to listen & hold space

- Closing; Gesture of the heart (lighting a candle)

What you'll come away with: a renewed sense of emotional space and a readiness to turn towards others to listen.

This event will take place over ZOOM. If you are inexperienced using ZOOM (a video conferencing online tool), instructions will be provided.

Requirements to join: a webcam with a mic (a iPhone / smartphone will work but desktop or laptop is best).

Who is this event suited for?

  • Anyone who feels overwhelmed by the amount of emotional pain being experienced right now

  • Black Lives Matter activists, anti-racism activists

  • Therapists & healthcare workers who need to restore their emotional capacity
